Cubic's
COUGAR is a new “mini” robot designed for Law
Enforcement or EOD operations. Its “Camera and 2 Guns”
gives officers and technicians
valuable support in a broad range of tactical operations.
Its small footprint and low cost enable quick deployment.
COUGAR's
capabilities and features include:
• Rugged Workhorse With A Defense Heritage
• Compact, 34-Pound Design Easily Fits A Squad Car Trunk.
• 6-Wheel Independent Drive
• Daylight And IR Video
• RF Communications Via High Power 802.11 Digital Link
• Two Royal Arms Disruptors
• Operator Control Via Familiar Game-Station Handheld
Controller and
Toughbook Laptop
VIDEO
and CONTROL
COUGAR has a video and control range of 500 feet line of sight,
using a 2.4 GHz 802.11g wireless link. It
supports
tactical teams by providing video or optional sensor
information from high risk or hazardous environments.
Intended applications include:
• Video surveillance
• Hostage
• Clandestine activities
• Vehicle Undercarriage
• IED disruption
• Confined space inspection
• Assessment of potential high risk hazmat environments
COUGAR's
low profile and pivoting camera enable rapid inspection
of
low or narrow spaces such as under automobiles or in narrow
and low passageways. Interiors of enclosed spaces such
as
tanks or cargo containers can be examined without risk to
personnel from toxic substances. The camera pivots ± 90
degrees, enabling forward, look-up, and look-down viewing.
DISRUPTORS
COUGAR is equipped with dual aim-able Royal Arms 1”
form factor disposable disruptors. They are boresighted with
the camera for precise aiming of the charges. The Safe and
Arm system requires an active command sequence for safe firing.
The
safety is automatically set if loss of control link
is sensed or if movement is detected during the arming sequence.
MANEUVERABILITY
Six independent
wheels and lithium polymer batteries provide power and torque
to traverse grass, mud, dirt, paved terrain, interior obstacles,
and slopes in excess of 45 degrees. An extremely low center
of gravity minimizes rollovers, while differential skid-steering
provides the ability to turn 360 degrees in its own width.
Should an inversion occur, software automatically inverts
video and operator control inputs to enable seamless completion
of the mission.
A removable Tailhook enables snagging/towing of suspicious
items.
EXPANSION
CAPABILITY
The robot’s 13” by 7” flat top and Ethernet
and RS-232 accessory ports enable easy installation of sensors,
carry baskets, and other payloads.
LOGISTICS
Charging capability is built-in, just connect to 12V DC vehicle
power to maintain battery capacity. Battery change out is
accomplished via top cover removal without special tools.
110VAC charging for laptop and robot are also available.
Storage is provided in a rugged Pelican-style case for single-man
transport. It can be where it’s needed, when it’s
needed for situation assessment or action.
12-month
standard warranty is included.
